Evelyn Says She Misses Jennifer In Recent Vibe Mag Interview

Everyone’s favorite-not-so-favorite ‘Basketball Wives’ star Evelyn Lozada has unintentionally branded herself as a trash-talking, table jumping reality star who will threaten a Bronx beatdown at any given moment, but she also has a soft, apologetic side once you get around the rough edges. She recently sat down with Vibe Magazine for a candid interview on ‘Basketball Wives Season 4′ and discussed everything from her failed relationship with Jennifer Williams and why she misses her, to her newfound friendship with Rihanna (with whom she met on Twitter) and her fiance Chad Ochocinco.

She also revealed plans to keep her last name due to the brand that she’s beginning to build.

Peep a few excerpts:

On whether she felt she could have handled her beef with Jennifer a lot differently
I think so. A lot was happening during that time. I’m one of those people, I said some things and I was just like, that was not cool. I live by loyalty and I feel like, at that point, I broke the friend code. I should have never broken that code and I should have never stooped down to that level. Like, if she wants to do interviews and slick comments, it is what it is. I don’t hate her. People just get caught up in this industry; you do interviews and say certain things. I truly don’t wish her anything negative, we’ve gone through a lot together as friends from moving out, men drama, all types of stuff. It’s just tough having to relive it then talk about it. You never have that time for healing. But now that the show is done and things are calming down, I’m not angry anymore about it and I don’t hate her at all. I don’t really hate anybody, I was just upset how things were handled.

On whether she misses Jennifer Williams
I miss her. We were friends for 10 years. I was in her wedding, so you know yeah, and your thinking you guys are going to do this show together, your BFF, and then your kind of like what happened? And we are mutual friends with a lot of people, so everything else became weird energy. It was tough.

On how she developed thick skin
I’ve accepted that this is a part of my life and apart of my world now. The more the show became popular, and I started dating Chad, its been like chaos. I’m never going to hide and I’m always one of those people that say TV can be a gift and a curse, and at the same time it’s opened up doors for me that I never would have imagined.

On what she’s learned from being on ‘Basketball Wives’
Just to probably listen. Everyone always says it on the show, ‘Evelyn goes from 0-10.’ And that’s how I’ve always been since I was 13. Where I grew up, most people wouldn’t say, Okay, let’s have a conversation. That’s not the way things were dealt with where I grew up. You running your mouth? You talking sh-t? Things happen. There’s consequences for that. I’ve learned it’s not all about screaming and yelling and, ‘Oh, you’re a fucking b-tch.’ Most of the time I don’t get my point across.
[...] I was born and raised in the Bronx and went to public school in Manhattan. New York is a hustle and bustle type of place, you’re in cab getting cursed out and everyone is so high-strung. You’re always on defense mode. I love New York; I wouldn’t take anything back, but you become a little aggressive [Laughs].

On her relationship with Rihanna
We became cool on Twitter [laughs], and she’s cool! She lives her life and does what the fuck she wants and I love that about her. It’s tough because all of a sudden your supposed to be perfect and a role model to everyone and not live your life and I think she does what she needs to do, she’s young and having fun. Growing up, I didn’t necessarily say ‘oh my god! Look at Madonna I want to be just like her’, I just loved her music. I feel like people put so much pressure on these celebrities and it’s like I think parents should be role models and if you don’t want your kids watching these things then don’t. Like my daughter is almost 19 and she will tell you that growing up she had parental control for the TV, because of HBO etc. In my eyes, Rihanna can do no wrong, I think she’s an amazing artist. She’s gorgeous, handles her business, and lives her life with no apologies.

On whether she is going to drop her last name
I don’t know. I’m going to keep Evelyn Lozada for now because it’s a brand that I’m building. It’s my own little thing I got going on. We are still on the fence of that though, so we’ll see.

Robin Thicke Pays Tribute To The Late Great Whitney Houston

Robin Thicke shows off his mean falsetto in a new video covering ‘Exhale (Shoop Shoop)’ in honor of Whitney Houston.

Shot in the streets of New York, the video uses black and white imagery and shots of poverty to create a melancholy feel for the already sad affair. As Robin sings and performs the song on the street, color slowly begins to make its way into the world in Whitney’s remembrance.

Former B2K Member, Raz B's is Releasing A Tell All Book and He Claims That BOW WOW And CHRIS BROWN Are Gay!!

B2K band member, RAZ B is releasing a tell all . .. . where he is SUPPOSEDLY dishing the dirt on the ENTIRE MUSIC BUSINESS. The book, entitled This Boy’s Life is published through Corona Sky Production.

According to Raz . . . dang near EVERYBODY IS GAY. Raz is known for making some REAL OUTLANDISH allegations . .. so we're gonna take all this with a grain of salt. Here is some of the more CRAZY ISH he's putting in his tell all!!

On Bow Wow:

“Bow Wow was younger than all of us, but the record company figured his affiliation with us (B2k) would be great. I didn’t see it for myself but I was told by Fizz that Bow Wow and he got involved with each other. I didn’t put a lot of stock in it then. It would be a few years until I realize that Fizz wasn’t lying. In 2005 Bow Wow and Omari became “inseparable”. It wasn’t until rumors forced Bow Wow to end the relationships. The gay talk was hurting Bow Wow’s business.”

On Chris Brown:

“They say you never know who knows who. Chris Brown didn’t think about that when he attacked me online. I have a friend that’s very close to Chris’ camp who told me that Chris was involved with an up and coming songwriter Andre Merritt. So when Chris started going in calling people ‘gay’ and ‘fags’ I just dropped Andre Merritt’s name. I knew it was true when he decided to shut up.”

Beyonce Blazes The Stage At Revel In Atlantic City

If anyone was proud of Beyonce as she made her return to the stage last night at the Revel in Atlantic City, it was definitely her hubby Jay-z who sent out the tweet, “I’m gonna say this and then I’m gonna end mine.” BEYONCE is the best performer in the world. Period.‘

Whether you agree to disagree with Jay or not, King Bey took to the stage in rare form last night as she delivered a two hour breathtaking show in front of 5,500 screaming die-hard fans. She breezed through some of her crowd favs like, ‘Irreplaceable’, ‘I Was Here’, ‘Who Run The World’, and ‘End Of Time’, as well as a special tribute of ‘Ex-Factor’ for Lauryn Hill who was celebrating her birthday yesterday. She also performed, ‘I Will Always Love You’ before transitioning into ‘Halo’ in honor of the late Whitney Houston.

Before the show, she revealed that she put the final bells and whistles on the show in two weeks and she hopes that others are inspired by what she was able to achieve:

"We usually have two months to do what we’re doing in two weeks but what is new? Getting this show together, learning choreographer and directing something so huge…for me to do all this four months after giving birth, it feels like I went from zero to ten. It was really hard but I did it and I’m hoping that somebody can be inspired by what I did."

Kanye West Introduces The G.O.O.D Music Family

With the exception of label veterans John Legend and Kid Cudi, Kanye posed for a photo with all of his label signees on the set of his new short film ‘Cruel Summer,’ which was shot in Qatar. The photo includes (From left to right), Pusha T, Nigerian singer D’Banj, 2 Chainz (who knew??), Big Sean, Mr. Hudson, Teyana Taylor, Hit-Boy and CyHi The Prynce all dressed in matching Middle Eastern/Egyptian garb.

Kanye, meanwhile, has every reason to be smiling. His crew will be releasing their long-awaited G.O.O.D. Music compilation LP ‘Cruel Summer‘ in a few weeks, and many of the songs that will be featured on the album were played in the movie. Kanye used a booming surround sound set-up to shake audience members with the songs’ bass and fully immerse them in his seven-screen movie production, which stars Kid Cudi.

According to Complex:

Cruel Summer is the story of a Lamborghini car thief who falls for a beautiful blind Arabic girl who’s father will let them marry if he can help her see. So he (Kid Cudi) does using strings that lead her around palace to play music.

Kanye reportedly needed 20 camels, 100 extras, and around 20 Lambos to complete the set of the film which took four days to shoot and featured fashion by Ye as well as Arab designers.

Young Money betta watch out!! I wonder where Common if Common is no longer affiliated with the crew cause he was M.I.A from the family pic.

After actress Stacey Dash abruptly left the series last season, actress Denise Vasi swooped in to take her place, however, instead of taking on the role Val, she’s playing Racquel, a long time friend of Keisha’s (LisaRaye). Meanwhile, Keisha is still stirring up some trouble of her own after she and Malcolm (D.B. Woodside) begin having relationship problems and an old flame comes back into town looking to spice things up. April (Charity Shea) seems to be enjoying the single life for the first time but doesn’t like it when it all gets old jumping from man to man. There will also be appearances by a ton of celebs including executive producer Queen Latifah, T.I. Paula Patton, Romeo Miller, Rozanda ‘Chilli’ Thomas, Big Boi, and comedian Tony Rock. D'Angelo Makes A Comeback In GQ Magazine Spread

Check out excerpts from the interview below:

D’Angelo on the evil in music:
There’s forces that are going on that I don’t think a lot of motherf-ckers that make music today are aware of,” he says. “It’s deep. I’ve felt it. I’ve felt other forces puling at me.” He stubs out his cigarette and leans toward me, taking my hand. “This is a very powerful medium that we are involved in,” he says gravely.” “I learned at an early age that what we were doing in the choir was just as important as the preacher. It was a ministry in itself. We could stir the pot, you know? The stage is our pulpit, and you can use all of the energy and that music and the lights and the colors and the sound. But you know, you’ve got to be careful.”

Paul Hunter (Director of Untitled) on the video being misunderstood:
Most people think the ‘Untitled’ video was about sex, but my direction was completely opposite of that. It was about his grandmother’s cooking. Think of your grandmother’s greens, how it smelled in the kitchen. What did the yams and the fried chicken taste like? That’s what I want you to express.” The video may have looked like foreplay, but it was actually about family, Hunter insists-about intimacy.

Later when I tell D’Angelo this, he says, “It’s so true: We talked about the Holy Ghost and the church before that take. The veil is the nudity and the sexuality. But what they’re really getting is the spirit.

D’Angelo on the effects of the ‘Untitled’ video:

One time I got mad when a female threw money at me onstage, and that made me feel like f-cked-up, and I threw the money back at her. I was like, ‘I’m not a stripper.’
On the last day of the eight-month tour, Questlove says D’Angelo told him, “Yo, man, I cannot wait until this f-cking tour is over. I’m going to go in the woods, drink some hooch, grow a beard, and get fat.” Questlove thought he was joking. “I was like, ‘You’re a funny guy.’ And then it started to happen. That’s how much he wanted to distance himself.”

Angie Stone, the mother of one of D’Angelo’s kids detailed a time that she had to wait in the wings while he walked in an awards show with actress Vivica Fox.

Stone remembers an event in Manhatten in September 1996 that was billed as Giorgio Armani’s tribute to D’Angelo. Stone-thirteen years older than D-was three months pregnant with their son. They headed to the event together in a limo, but as they neared the venue where D was going to perform, it suddenly pulled over. He was asked to get into another car, where he would be escorted by Vivica Fox,” Stone says, her voice breaking slightly. The lissome Fox had just appeared with Will Smith in the blockbuster Independence Day. “It was a Hollywood moment. They wanted a trophy girl. I had to walk in behind them to flashing cameras. It started the wheels turning of what was yet to come.

The magazine also cited past reports of Madonna wanting a piece of D

When Madonna turned 39, she asked him to sing “Happy Birthday” at her party. One press report had her sitting on his lap and French-kissing him. In fact, two sources say that ultimately D rebuffed her advances at another gathering not long after. At that event, the sources say, Madonna walked over and told a woman sitting next to D, “I think you’re in my seat.” The woman got up. Madonna sat down and told him, “I’d like to know what you’re thinking.” To which D replied, “I’m thinking you’re rude.”

Lil' Kim, Eve, Missy Elliot and More Perform at Paradise Theater

Last night, Lil Kim kicked off the ‘Return of The Queen’ tour at Paradise theater in the Bronx and it was all love as rap veterans like Pepa (of Salt & Pepa) EVE and Missy Elliot came out to support as well as Mob Wives’ star Drita, Love & Hip Hop’s Somaya Reece and a very pregnant Yandy Smith.

The show kicked off with Lil Kim performing ‘Black Friday’ before she went into a few crowd favorites from ‘Hardcore’, ‘The Notorious K.I.M’, ‘The Naked Truth’ and ‘La Bella Mafia’.

Eventually, the beat for Missy Elliott’s ‘Hot Boys’ dropped and the crowd went crazy as Eve and Missy Elliott hit the stage to perform their verses. Eve also stuck around and rocked the crowd to ‘What y’all want’.

Mob Wives’ Drita D’Vanzo also appeared on stage with Lil Kim to perform, ‘It’s All About The Benjamins’. Lil Kim had spotted Drita in a few youtube videos covering her songs at parties and she reached out to her and asked her to host the show and perform.

It's always nice to see a bunch of woman come together whether in music or just in life.

Raven Symone Sets The Record Straight On Lesbian Rumors

Raven Symone has been pretty mum when it comes to her social life over the years so when news hit earlier this week that she had ‘came out’, it was a bit surprising. That’s until the story traced back to the National Enquirer and our reaction turned from surprise to **eye roll**. According to the tabloid, Raven and her alleged girlfriend AzMarie Livingston (a former America’s Next Top Model contestant) is shacking up together in an NYC condo where Raven is residing while playing the lead in Sister Act on Broadway.

After the reports hit the net, Raven ignored them for a few days before finally addressing them on her twitter:

“I’m living my PERSONAL life the way I’m happiest. I’m not one, in my 25 year career to disclose who I’m dating. and I shall not start now. My sexual orientation is mine, and the person I’m datings to know. I’m not one for a public display of my life. However that is my right as a HUMAN BEing whether straight or gay. To tell or not to tell. As long as I’m not harming anyone. I am a light being made from love. And my career is the only thing I would like to put on display, not my personal life. Kisses!”

Not everyone’s throwing confetti about it though. If the reports are true, her parents were pretty upset when they found out:

She’s at a point now where she doesn’t care what her family thinks, and she’s in love with AzMarie. She’s a lesbian and wants to live that way. She told her parents she loves them, but her home – especially her bedroom – is nobody’s business, and she was not going to back down, so they needed to accept it, period.

After 7 Years, Terrance and Rocsi Are Leaving 106 & Park

This week we braced our hearts after news hit that Tia Mowry and Pooch Hall would not be returning to BET’s The Game and now it looks as though two of their most popular hosts are on their way out the door as well. According to reports, 106 and Park hosts Rocsi and Terrence will be leaving the show after 7 years. Both joined the show in 2005 after being discovered by BET during a National ‘New Faces’ Talent Search to find new talent. Although Terrence did not make the cut in the city he auditioned in, he drove to the next city’s audition, auditoned for a second time and won the gig as a host alongside Rocsi, who auditioned in Chicago. [Rocsi was working as a radio DJ at Chicago's Power 92 at the time of her audition].

It’s the beginning of another chapter for both hosts. Terrence will continue his career as a movie and television actor, already snagging roles in ‘Burlesque’, ‘Think Like A Man’, BET’s ‘The Game and Stomp The Yard 2. Rocsi is the host of a national syndicated radio show, ‘Rocsi On The Radio’ and will be moving to California to pursue a career in acting with a project starring Lynn Whitfield already in the works.

Aww everyone is just leaving BET huh...Wonder who is gonna replace them?

Jay-Z Announces ‘Made in America’ Music Festival in Philadelphia

He’s headlined Coachella and Glastonbury, and now Jay-Z is launching his own festival. The hip-hop king will be the curator and headlining performer at the inaugural “Budweiser Made in America” music festival this Labor Day weekend.

The two-day extravaganza, produced by Live Nation, will bring together an eclectic lineup of nearly 30 performers—from hip-hop to R&B to dance to Latin acts. It will be held on three stages in Fairmount Park in Philadelphia on Sept. 1 and Sept. 2, with a percentage of proceeds benefitting the United Way Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey.

Jay-Z was on hand to announce the festival at a Monday press conference with Mayor Michael A. Nutter of Philadelphia.

“Whenever I enter into a project I try to hit some touch points,” said the Roc Nation CEO, with the American flag draped behind him. “The first being, is it great? Once we start there, we’ll end up in a great place. The second one, is it gonna push the culture forward? I think this concert will do that.”

He explained why he chose the City of Brotherly Love as the host city. “Everybody knows my love affair with Philly with the amazing, talented artists I’ve signed from here,” said Jay, as his Roc-A-Fella protĂ©gĂ© Freeway stood behind him.

Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, May 23, with limited packages available at $99. Musical acts will be revealed in the coming weeks

Jada Pinkett-Smith, Her Mother, Adrienne and Willow Sit Down For An Intimate Mother's Day Conversation

In celebration of Mother’s Day, actress Jada Pinkett-Smith decided to sit down with her mother Adrienne Banfield-Jones and her daughter Willow to have an honest and candid conversation about life, love, family and relationships. In a special video called ‘Red Table Talks’ the three generations sit together around a circular red table and begin a tradition that hopefully with catch on with mothers and daughters worldwide where they talk about things that were always left unsaid.

Within the first few minutes, Jada’s mother Adrienne cuts to the chase and tells Willow that Jada’s childhood wasn’t as good as hers because Adrienne was on drugs well into Jada’s teens. What was interesting was that she considered herself a ‘bad mother’ and she felt that deep down Jada resented her for that. She also expressed that she felt disconnected to Jada and her family a little and was very surprised when Jada revealed that she wasn’t holding on to any resentment and didn’t think of her as a bad mother. Jada also seemed extremely surprised when Willow admitted that if she could change anything, it would be that she wouldn’t be famous because she can’t be a regular girl.

The table talk was very open and candid and by the end of the video, you get a sense that Jada’s mother was finally able to let go of the guilt that she was holding on to for all of those years.

Trey Songz And His Mom Tell All About The Upcoming Album And Collaborations

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, Trey Songz and his mom April Tucker called into Power 99’s Morning Show on Friday. The radio hosts grilled Mama Songz on her famous son’s nicknames and got her thoughts on Kelly Rowland, who appeared in Trey’s “Heart Attack” video.

“He’s a mama’s boy, but he’s his own man at the same time,” said April. “I think that’s the best combination. He has great reverence and respect for me, but he still comes home and lays his head across my lap when it’s time to watch TV.”

She also revealed one of Trey’s more embarrassing nicknames. “I call him my Maxi Me ’cause he looks a lot like me.”

His on-screen co-star Kelly Rowland gets mom’s seal of approval. “I think they look very cute,” said April. “I was on set and she’s very sweet and they have amazing chemistry in front of the camera, but they’re good friends. I like her though, she’s a sweetheart.”

Trey’s new album Chapter 5 is due out mid-summer featuring some big names. “I got a record with Tip on there ['2 Reasons'],” said Trigga. “Shout out to [Lil] Wayne, Big Sean, J. Cole, Kelly Rowland as well. A lot of great features thus far and I’m still recording.”

Terrell Owens Comes Face to Face With His Baby Mamas On Dr. Phil

Yesterday, Terrell sat down with Dr. Phil and went head to head with three of his kids’ mothers. [The fourth one refused to show up for one reason or another]. While there, the three women basically had the same story of Terrell’s lack of interest in seeing his kids and neglecting his responsibilities as a father. Meanwhile, Terrell was fishing for every excuse in the book which included his current money woes and believing the women were gold-diggers looking for a pay-out from his baller days. He even described his relationship with his father, that he said he didn’t know who his dad was until he was 10 or 12 years old, even though his Dad lived right across the street.

One-by-one Kimberly Floyd, Melanie Paige Smith and Monique Reynolds all described how T.O. exemplified being a deadbeat dad with Kimberly’s mother calling him “evil” and Melanie saying that Terrell hasn’t seen their daughter because he won’t buy the plane ticket for her to bring her daughter to see him. Terrell, however, said he’s being misunderstood in the media and being made out to be the bad guy.

“I’m not like what my persona exudes when I’m on the field. I’m very passionate to get where I am, to be where I am, and that’s my drive. I did it for my family. I did it for my grandmother.[...]Within the media, they think I’m a selfish, arrogant, cocky person. My character has been mis-portrayed. The media won’t allow me to turn over a new leaf.”

I love my kids to death and I definitely want to have that relationship with my kids that I didn’t have with my father. With me not being physically, year-round, in the same place as my kids, it’s hard for me to establish that relationship. People may think I’m a deadbeat dad but I was fulfilling my obligations as far as financial support.”

Kimberly, mother of Terrell’s 7-year-old daughter, says that “Terrell wants to do, literally, the bare minimum.” She said that Terrell had only seen their daughter 12 times in her life and never sends birthday or Christmas presents. She also claims that Terrell hasn’t even spoken to his daughter in over a year.

Monique, mother of Terrell’s 12-year-old son says that Terrell made public appearances with their son just so that he would look like the proud father and pump up his image. She also said that he called her to see if her child would be a part of ‘The TO Show’ and she wasn’t about to let him exploit their kid. Although Terrell claimed that he wasn’t in a relationship with any of the kids’ mothers, Monique says that she and Terrell were together until his career took off, lived together for 8 months and his personality started to change with the fame.

Melanie, mother of Terrell’s 7 year old daughter, says she is still struggling to make ends meet and raise her child alone.

All in all, it wasn’t the best look for T.O. Not only did the ladies put a foot in his a–, Dr. Phil joined in to see why Terrell had been neglecting his fatherly responsibilities. His money problems have been laid out in the media with Terrell saying that he blew threw $80 million [on money, cars, clothes, poppin' bottles and other disposable things] and doesn’t have a dime to his name. He said at one point he was paying out over $45,000 a month in child support alone and now that he has no job and no income coming in, he just can’t keep up with the child support payments. Considering that when he grew up his father wasn’t around I hope this was a wake up call to at least spend more time with his children.

President Obama Is In Support Of Same Sex Marriage

President Obama is going in the record books as the first president to openly express his wholehearted support for same-sex marriages. This issue has come up time and again over the course of three or four presidential elections with Republican candidates strongly opposing the issue and Democratic ones dancing around it. Even this year’s Republican candidate, Mitt Romney, has already said he opposes it and even wants to add an amendment to the Constitution that forbids it.

But Obama throwing his support behind this widely debated social issue brings the conversations voters are having before they hit the ballot boxes this November slightly away from the economy and very much back to this.

During his sit down with ABC’s Robin Roberts, Obama said:

"I had hesitated on gay marriage in part because I thought that civil unions would be sufficient. I was sensitive to the fact that for a lot of people, the word marriage was something that invokes very powerful traditions and religious beliefs. I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married."

He also revealed that he has Michelle’s support:

"This is something that, you know, we’ve talked about over the years and she feels the same way that I do. And that is that, in the end the values that I care most deeply about and she cares most deeply about is how we treat other people. We are both practicing Christians and obviously this position may be considered to put us at odds with the views of others but, when we think about our faith, the thing at root that we think about is, not only Christ sacrificing himself on our behalf, but it’s also the Golden Rule; treat others the way you would want to be treated. And I think that’s what we try to impart to our kids and that’s what motivates me as president and I figure the most consistent I can be in being true to those precepts, the better I’ll be as a dad and a husband and, hopefully, the better I’ll be as president."

Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys Dies of Cancer at age 47

Famed hip-hop trio the Beastie Boys are mourning the loss of their brother-in-rhyme Adam "MCA" Yauch, who died May 4 as a result of his battle with cancer, according to TMZ. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native was 47.

Fours years ago on July 20, 2009, Yauch announced he had been diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his parotid gland, located in the mouth. As a result of the disease, the Beastie Boys had postponed all tour dates and pushed back the release of their eighth studio album, originally titled Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 1, which was later released and titled Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2.
His illness may have caused setbacks in his personal life and career but Yauch put up a strong fight, battling against the cancer. In August 2009, he underwent surgery to remove the tumor in his glands. Several months prior, he had asked fans to meditate with him in an effort to smash "apart all the cancer cells in the world."

Earlier this year, reports that the veteran rhymer were cancer-free surfaced, however, Yauch dismissed the news via his publicist. "I'm continuing treatment, staying optimistic and hoping to be cancer free in the near future," he said.

Adam "MCA" Yauch, Michael "Mike D" Diamond and Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz formed the Beastie Boys in 1979, starting off as a punk band and later transitioned to hip-hop in 1984. The threesome released their debut album, Licensed to Ill, in 1986, noted as Columbia Records' "fastest-selling debut record to date and sold over 9 million copies."

They've gone on to release numerous albums, won a Grammy award for their 1995 hit "Sabotage," among other Grammy accomplishments, earned MTV Video Music Awards for videos "Intergalactic" and "Make Some Noise" and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April 2012. Yauch was absent from the ceremony, however, Diamond and Horowitz accepted the achievement in his honor.

Yauch is survived by his wife Dechen Wangdu and daughter, Tenzin Losel Yauch.

Pilar Sanders’ Best Friend: ‘Deion Struck Her In The Head With A Statue’

And the drama continues...

Last week, Deion Sanders made headlines after he posted on twitter that he had been jumped by his estranged wife Pilar and one of her friends. He said that he was pressing charges and she was going to go to jail, and sure enough, later that night Pilar was taken into custody. Now, Pilar’s BFF Dee Boswell is claiming that Deion initiated the fight and she has the evidence on her phone to prove it. She recently sat down with Good Morning America to chat about the incident which she says left Pilar bloody and bruised.

On What Happened:

I was upstairs cleaning some things out of their daughter’s room to help move into Pilar’s room. I heard muffled yells and then I suddenly heard Pilar scream, ‘like not scream like, ‘Hey, how are you?’ Scream like, ‘Somebody help me. I immediately split second decided to record it and went downstairs and as I rounded the corner I had my phone in my left hand and I was able to capture Deion striking Pilar in the head with a statue. Pilar was crouched down on the floor [with her hands over her head] and with his left hand he rared back and just plowed her right on top of her head with the statue and smashed her thumb.

On Deion attacking her:

He was able to realize I was recording, it was very oblivious. I had my phone out in front of me, and then he threw Pilar down to the floor and came after me.

Where is this cell phone video tape now?

The Prosper Police Department has confiscated it .

On what she was thinking when Pilar was arrested:

Wow! Seriously? You have a woman who has blood all over her face and hand, her lip is obviously split, she’s got a horrendous injury on her thumb and they treated me and her like we were the criminals. “Get out! Get out! Don’t come back into the house. Stay out here until we come out and talk to you” She was in an ambulance and the next thing you know she was going to jail.

What do you think about Deion saying he’s not the type of guy that would act out in the way you’re claiming he did?

I say just wait until the truth comes out. The evidence is going to speak for itself. I have my phone. Once he realized what I was doing he went from a look of rage to a look of ‘Ooh crap, I’m in trouble.”

On if their perfect public image was an illusion:

No, not at all. I’ve known Deion for 13 years and I’ve known Pilar all my life and up until things started to change, everything was good.

When did things start to change?

For me, I would have to say I started noticing some things probably around the end of September, maybe earlier October.

And those things were?

Tension in the house. Pilar being a little more depressed, revered and laid back

Do you have any insight into what went wrong?

I really don’t. They have their own separate lives and I have my own life.

Were they any allegations or confessions of abuse that she shared with you during the marriage?

Yes, there was one other incident when I first moved to Dallas back in 2006. This was around 2007-2008 where she called in the middle of the night frantically. It was about 2am to come out to the house and help her leave and he had choked her.

In an interview with Good Morning America, Deion said he didn’t put his hands on Pilar and that he tweeted what happened before the story could be twisted into something else:

When these Prosper police reports come out you’re really going to see a pattern, a pattern of ignorance and it’s crazy. Everyone in this community, as well as the city, knows abut what’s going on. You’re just hearing about it outwardly and aboard because of the severity of it. I prayed to God that they don’t allow her back in the home because it’s not a safe environment for me or as well as the kids but I can assure you one thing, she was never touched. Thank God I have two witnesses that happens to be my children that saw the whole incident.

When you have allegation that I hit you that I touched you or I’ve assaulted you that is just straight up ignorant. I’m opening schools; I’m doing s many things for the community. I have endorsements. I can’t be alleged as a guy that’s lost his mind. That’s not who I am or what I am. My son came and said, ‘Daddy, mommy called an ambulance; she’s getting into the ambulance, nothing is wrong with her,’” he said. “I said, ‘Oh my God.’ That’s the last thing I want to see, the first thing the public hears [is] that I abused me wife. Sporadically and quickly we said, “We got to tell our story first and get it out there and that’s where that came from.’

Update: According to CBS Local, Deion is facing criminal mischief charges for trying to destroy the evidence related to the incident.

Beyonce Wins Journalism Award

Fresh off the pages of PEOPLE magazine as their Most Beautiful Woman of 2012, Beyonce’s adding another title to her list of awards now that she’s being honored by the New York Association of Black Journalists on May 15. Back in July 2011, Beyonce wrote a cover story for Essence magazine where she shared details of her spiritual and creative journey around the world during her 9 month hiatus.

In the issue, she wrote about making time to relax and take time for herself, her family, getting away from the hype of it all and having a “regular” life as well as her mom being her hero:

"Tina Knowles was my first example of what a powerful woman is. She shaped my thinking not so much by what she said, but what she did. At her salon she worked 13-hour days, managed her staff, styled hair, and gave out free advice to her clients. She would tell the women to remember their worth and that they couldn’t work all those hours and not treat themselves every now and then. My mama worked until she had calluses on her fingers and swollen feet, then she would find time to redecorate houses for her friends and make everyone’s prom and wedding dresses. She took me and my sister, Solange, to our dance classes and recitals, cooked us delicious meals, and brought us to church. On Sunday it was family day. Period. She worked hard for her family and never complained. That has not stopped. Even now, while running her own clothing company, my mother is there for us at our shows, video shoots and every milestone in her grandson Julez’s life. I’m still figuring out how she balances it all and makes it seem so effortless.

My mother taught me the principles of hard work, setting my own goals and visualizing my future. From my early days with Destiny’s Child, I understood I had to be focused and dedicated if I wanted true success. We were taught we needed a plan and the discipline to execute that plan to the fullest. I strongly believe if you work hard, whatever you want, it will come to you. I know that’s easier said than done but keep trying. Before Destiny’s Child was signed, we were turned down by so many record labels. Then, when I was 13, we were signed but later dropped. On Star Search, we lost and were devastated but we kept on trying.

That never-give-up attitude keeps me committed to helping people realize their potential. In March 2010, I opened a cosmetology school with my mom called The Beyoncé Cosmetology Center at Phoenix House Career Academy in Brooklyn. The academy is for women and men who are in treatment for drug addiction. They are learning skills that will prepare them for their lives after recovery. With support, everyone has a chance to make it.
I looked to my mother for inspiration — after all, she was the one who made me realize I needed some balance. She worked hard, but found time to go on vacations, spend time with me and Solange, go to concerts and dinners. Plus, she always, always looked amazing. I can still hear her stilettos as she walked through the house and smell her perfume".

Beyonce also went on to detail the reason she was taking time off:

“From the time my first solo album, Dangerously in Love, was released in 2003 until my last tour ended in February 2010, I’ve constantly been on the road, or in the studio, filming a movie, or doing promotions state-side or in Europe, Asia or Australia. After grinding for so long, I wanted a vacation — a real one. But getting it was going to take a little patience and hard work on my part.”

I had talked about taking a vacation before, but always ended up in the studio after two weeks, so no one believed me. This time, though, I was serious. I was going to give myself a year to do the things I never get to do. Simple things like play with my nephew, pick him up from school, visit museums, go to concerts, see some Broadway shows, learn to cook a meal and spend time with my husband.

My priority was savoring every moment. Yes, I needed some relaxation, but I wanted inspiration too, from regular, everyday things. They did not have to be over-the-top productions. I was looking for tiny moments that would speak to my heart and make me smile".
